Banana Slug

During the hike I saw very little wildlife. This is probably because the trail is frequented by many guests. I did however see this large Banana Slug, Ariolimax dolichophallus, crossing the trail. It was about six or seven inches long. Later when I was looking back at the pictures I took, I wondered about the holes in the side of its cephalized end (can't really call it a head). Apparently the holes are its pneumostome (basically its nose). It also has two sets of antenna one for touch and smell and the other for sight (although it can only see light and dark).

I went to Opal Creek with the swim team this past Saturday. I mentioned it in an earlier post.
